Control what clients see: milestones and the roadmap

You decide how much of a project's milestone roadmap a client sees — from nothing at all, through to a full breakdown of every milestone.

Steps

  1. Open the project and go to Settings → Features.
  2. Find the Client portal section.
  3. Set the Roadmap option to one of: Hidden, Phases only, Milestone summary, or Full detail.
  4. Save — the client's Milestones tab updates immediately to match.

New projects default to Milestone summary, so clients see meaningful progress information out of the box unless you choose to show less (or more).

What each level shows

  • Hidden — the Milestones tab doesn't appear in the portal at all.
  • Phases only — a high-level view of project phases, without individual milestone detail.
  • Milestone summary — each milestone with its name, status, and progress.
  • Full detail — adds description and amount for each milestone, plus any deliverables attached once they've been released.

Where the roadmap is visible, clients can switch between a visual roadmap view and a simple list view — whichever is easier for them to scan.

Good to know

  • This setting is per project, so you can show more to a long-standing client and less to a brand-new one.
  • It only controls the Milestones tab — your Quotes and Invoices tabs are managed separately and aren't affected by this setting.
  • Any deliverables attached to a milestone follow their own lock-until-paid rules regardless of the roadmap visibility level (see "Deliverables held until payment").

FAQs

Will changing this setting hide milestones I've already shared? Yes — dropping to a lower visibility level (or Hidden) takes effect immediately for the client.

Does "Full detail" show my internal costs? No — clients never see your cost rates or margins, no matter the visibility level.
