Share tasks and time with clients (visibility settings)
Tasks and logged time are hidden from clients by default. If you'd like a client to see progress at a glance — or in detail — you can switch this on per project.
Steps
- Open the project and go to Settings → Features.
- Find the Client portal section.
- Set Tasks to Hidden (default), Summary only, or Task list.
- Set Time to Hidden (default), Weekly totals, or Detailed entries.
- Save — a Tasks and/or Time tab appears on the client's project page as soon as either setting is above Hidden.
What each level shows
- Tasks — Summary only: progress counts grouped by milestone (how many tasks done vs. remaining).
- Tasks — Task list: adds a flat list of individual tasks with title, status, and due date.
- Time — Weekly totals: hours logged, grouped by week.
- Time — Detailed entries: adds a day-by-day breakdown of hours and a short description of the work.
Good to know
- Both settings are hidden by default — nothing changes for any existing client until you deliberately opt in on a project.
- Clients never see rates, cost or billable amounts, or who on your team logged the time or completed a task — regardless of the level you choose.
- Time entries you've rejected during approval are never shown to clients, at any visibility level.
- These settings are independent of each other and of the Roadmap and Quotes settings, so you can mix and match per project.
FAQs
Will clients see which team member did the work? No — task and time visibility only ever shows descriptive, non-identifying information.
Can I turn this on for one client but not another? Yes — the setting lives on the project, so different projects (and therefore different clients) can have different visibility.
Does this affect invoicing? No — what a client can see in the portal is separate from what gets billed. Only approved time is ever turned into an invoice, regardless of this setting.
