Connect AI tools with MCP

Connect AI tools with MCP

On the Team plan and above, you can connect external AI tools — like Claude Desktop — directly to your Handl data using MCP (Model Context Protocol), a standard way for AI apps to talk to other tools' data.

Steps

  1. Make sure your agency is on the Team plan ($99/month) or above — MCP isn't available on lower plans.
  2. From your Handl account settings, create a new MCP connection.
  3. Choose the access level: Read-only (your external AI tool can look up your data but never change anything) or Read & write (it can also create invoices, send agreements, and take other actions, the same as the in-app assistant).
  4. Copy the connection details into your MCP-compatible AI tool.
  5. Start asking your external AI tool about your Handl data directly.

Good to know

  • MCP is included from the Team plan ($99/month) upward.
  • A read-only connection can see everything it's scoped to, but can never send anything to a client or change your data.
  • A read & write connection can do essentially everything the in-app assistant can — including sending invoices and agreements — so only share write access with tools and people you trust.
  • Every action taken through an MCP connection is logged, the same as if it happened in the app.

FAQs

What is MCP? Model Context Protocol — an open standard that lets AI apps like Claude Desktop connect securely to other products' data and actions.

Is my data safe to connect this way? Every connection is scoped to your own agency's data only, and every action is logged.

Can I have more than one MCP connection? Yes — for example, a read-only one for general questions and a separate read & write one for a trusted workflow.
