When does money reach my bank account?

When a client pays an invoice through Handl, the money goes straight into your own Stripe account — Handl never holds your funds. How quickly it then lands in your bank account is set by Stripe, based on your account and country. Here's what to expect.

Where the money goes

Client payments are charged directly to your connected Stripe account, not to Handl. Stripe automatically deducts its processing fee and Handl's platform fee (0.5% on card, 0.25% on bank payments) at the moment of payment, so the amount that reaches your Stripe balance is already the net figure — you don't get billed separately later.

From your Stripe balance, Stripe pays out to your linked bank account on a schedule. That payout step is the part that takes time.

Typical timing

  1. Card payments — the clock starts the moment the payment succeeds. On Stripe's standard schedule, funds become available and are paid out on a rolling basis (commonly around 2 business days after the payment in Australia and the US, once your account is established).
  2. Your first payout — Stripe holds the first payout from a new account longer than usual (often 7–14 days) as a standard fraud-prevention step. This is a one-off; later payouts follow your normal schedule.
  3. Bank payments (PayTo, BECS, ACH) — bank debits have to clear before the money is even collected. PayTo is near-instant, ACH is around 2–3 business days, and BECS is around 3–5 business days. That clearing time comes first, and then Stripe's payout schedule applies on top.

Good to know

  • Stripe controls your payout schedule, and you can change it. Because payments land in your own Stripe account, you have full access to your Stripe Dashboard. Go to Settings → Payouts in Stripe to see your exact schedule and switch between automatic (daily/weekly/monthly) or manual payouts.
  • Your bank adds nothing extra in most cases — once Stripe releases a payout, it typically appears in your bank within the same or next business day.
  • Weekends and public holidays don't count as business days for payout timing.
  • The amount that lands is net of fees — Stripe's processing fee and Handl's platform fee are already taken out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the exact payout date inside Handl?

Not yet — for the precise payout date and status, open your Stripe Dashboard, where Stripe shows each upcoming and completed payout with its expected arrival date.

Why hasn't a bank payment shown as paid yet?

Bank debits (PayTo/BECS/ACH) only mark the invoice as paid once the debit has cleared the client's bank. Until then the invoice stays open. This is normal for bank transfers and is why they take longer than cards.

Can I get paid faster?

Encourage clients to pay by card (near-instant collection), and once your account is established you can set a daily automatic payout schedule in your Stripe Dashboard so funds move to your bank as soon as they're available.
